SEP. 24:  GREENBRIER VALLEY SHRINE CLUB OF BENI KEDEM SHRINERS WILL BE HAVING THEIR YEARLY SHRINE DAY SEPTEMBER 24, 2016 IN LEWISBURG, WEST VIRGINIA. SHRINERS WILL BE ON THE STREETS FROM 8 AM TILL 4 PM COLLECTING MONEY FOR THE SHRINER HOSPITALS FOLLOWED BY A PARADE AT 4 PM. LINE UP FOR PARADE WILL BE ON LEE STREET.

SEP. 24:  KNOWN AS “GOD’S THUMBPRINT,” SCENIC BURKE’S GARDEN, VA IS HOSTING THE 29TH ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL FEATURING HOME GROWN, HOMEMADE AND HAND-CRAFTED THROUGHOUT THE VALLEY.  LIVE MUSIC, KIDS’ ACTIVITIES, HISTORY PRESENTATIONS, HORSE-DRAWN WAGON RIDES AND MORE.  MOST VENDORS AND ACTIVITIES AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER (THE OLD SCHOOL).  FREE ADMISSION. DONATIONS FOR THE BG FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCEPTED FOR PARKING.

SEP 24:  FALL FESTIVAL AND 5K BENEFIT STARTS AT 10AM AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF BLUEFIELD.  OUR 2ND ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL WILL FEATURE LIVE MUSIC, GAMES, CRAFT VENDORS, BOUNCE HOUSE, FOOD, AND MORE!  THE BENEFIT 5K WILL GO TO SUPPORT TY MAXEY AND HIS DIABETIC ALERT DOG, ELI.  TY HAS BATTLED TYPE 1 DIABETES SINCE HE WAS 6 MONTHS OLD.  FREE ADMISSION

GEARED TOWARDS ADULTS AND TEENS, FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN BETTER PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION ONLINE. THE PROGRAM WILL COVER BEST PASSWORD PRACTICES, PHISHING EMAIL SCAMS, AND THE DANGERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA. BRING YOUR QUESTIONS TO ASK THE DETECTIVES AFTERWARDS. THIS IS A FREE EVENT AND STARTS AT 6PM.

 

SEP. 30:  OPEN HEART MINISTRIES OF BLUEFIELD, W.VA., WILL SERVE SPAGHETTI DINNERS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, FROM 11 A.M. TO 3:30 P.M. AT ITS WEST VIRGINIAN MANOR LOCATION, 415 FEDERAL STREET, DOWNTOWN BLUEFIELD, W.VA.  PROCEEDS ARE DEDICATED TO OPEN HEART MINISTRIES’ HOMELESS HAVENS. DINNERS INCLUDE SPAGHETTI AND MEAT SAUCE, SIDE SALAD, GARLIC BREAD, DESSERT AND A COLD DRINK. AN $8 DONATION IS REQUESTED. ORDERS CAN BE MADE AT (304) 323-2551. LOCAL DELIVERY IS AVAILABLE.

OCT. 1:  SOUTHERN THUNDER VIII “RIDING OUT THE STORM!” BAND COMPETITION WILL BE HELD SATURDAY OCTOBER 1, 2016 AT HUNNICUT FIELD IN PRINCETON.  SHOW STARTS AT 12PM

OCT. 1:  OKTOBREWFEST, TAZEWELL IS THE PREMIER CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL IN THE “HEART OF APPALACHIA”.  THE FESTIVAL  WHICH WILL BE LOCATED ON MAIN STREET, WILL PROMOTE REGIONAL CRAFT BEER, CIDER AND WINE.  TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED FOR SAMPLINGS FROM 11 CRAFT BREWERIES, 3 CIDERIES, AND 4 WINERIES AT A COST OF $25.00.   MUSIC THROUGHOUT THE EVENING WILL FEATURE: STEELE COOKIN, THE JON SPEER BAND AND THE BLUEGRASS KINSMEN.  A VARIETY OF FOOD VENDORS, ARTISANS AND CRAFTERS, AS WELL AS A KIDS ZONE FOR CHILDREN WILL BE LOCATED ALONG THE STREET.  THERE WILL ALSO BE A SANCTIONED CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT.
